101 Tips
The other day, while waiting at the doctor’s office, a magazine cover caught my eye:
“101 Celebrity Tips That Will Change Your Life.”
I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Why, I wondered, would I model my life after celebrities? Don’t get me wrong—there are surely some good and decent people who happen to have “celebrity” status. But the fact that this was the lead headline speaks volumes. It reveals what our culture celebrates, what it holds up as the ideal.
As if the pinnacle of human achievement is… fame.
Not virtue.
Not wisdom.
Not a life poured out in love and service.
Just being well-known.
This is the world flipped upside down.
We treat popularity as proof of credibility. We assume that someone with millions of followers must know something worth imitating. But fame doesn’t equal truth. Success doesn’t always mean sanctity. And being seen by the world is not the same as being known by God.
So here’s a thought—what if we turned the page to something deeper?
10 Commandments that will change how you live
1 Book that will change your life
101 Saints who will change how you see yourself—and the world
Now that’s wisdom that actually changes lives.
(Of course, who knows—maybe tip #1 in that magazine was “read the Bible.” I didn’t stick around to check.)
