A Good Fight
Here’s an interesting little thought experiment: What would you do if you knew you wouldn’t fail? What would you attempt if you knew that it would work? Would you play the lottery? Would you start your own business? Would you take the Gospel to the ends of the earth?
I think these questions reveal to us our heart’s desires, both in our everyday lives and in our spiritual lives. They also reveal our fears and what’s holding us back.
Now of course, this is just a thought experiment — we can fail. But, here’s the real question: is the reward of success worth the risk? In matters of faith, it is, because it’s not just any reward, but an infinite, eternal reward that we cannot begin to imagine. The reward waits for us on the other end of the promise that if we give ourselves to God, place our faith in Him, listen to His word, and follow Him, we can’t lose.
“I entrust this charge to you, my child, in accordance with the prophetic words once spoken about you. Through them may you fight a good fight.” 1 Timothy 1:18
