All About Us
“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:12-13)
This Scripture verse sums up our task on earth, which is essentially our path to Heaven. It’s a reminder that it’s not all about us. We don’t live in isolation, and we don’t reach Heaven in isolation either.
We’re so caught up in our own lives that we think in order to get to Heaven, we need to save ourselves — like single-handedly rescuing ourselves from a sinking ship. But, this is not the message of the Gospel.
God is love, He made us out of love, and He made us to love. And, Christ Himself tells us that there is no greater love than this: to give yourself for others. It’s in giving that we receive. It’s by losing our souls that we save them. Again, it’s not about us.
It’s in shifting our gaze toward others — being men and women for others — that we save ourselves.
