Brick by Brick
Our Lord uses the metaphor of building a house on sand or on rock. To continue that metaphor, let's think about what it actually takes to build the house—or more specifically, the foundation.
In the simplest sense, how do you build it? Brick by brick.
The edifice of our souls is no different. We don't wake up one day and—boom—we're holy. It's slow and steady wins the race, as the saying goes.
So what are the bricks for us?
Prayer. Mass. Scripture. The sacraments. Acts of service. Moments of patience with your kids.
Each one matters. Each one gets laid carefully, deliberately, one at a time. You don't build a wall by throwing bricks around—you place them, one by one, with intention.
It's so easy to start small. But over time, you might have just built a cathedral.
