Checking In
Depending on the source, up to 90% of people check their phone within ten minutes of waking up.
The struggle is real.
I’ll be the first to admit—I’ve done it. The screen lights up, and suddenly I’m pulled into texts, news, emails, notifications. Before I’ve even stepped out of bed, my mind is already crowded.
But I’ve also found that those first few minutes after waking are sacred ground. My mind is still quiet, not yet shaped by the noise of the day. It’s a rare window of stillness—when the world hasn’t rushed in yet.
That’s why I’ve started trying, however imperfectly, to check in with God before I check in with the world.
Just a few moments. A deep breath. A simple prayer:
“Here I am, Lord.”
“Jesus, I trust in You.”
“Jesus, I surrender myself to You, take care of everything.”
It doesn’t have to be long or eloquent. But turning to Him first shifts something in me. It grounds the day.
Before the emails, before the headlines, before the to-do list—I want to let God set the tone.
Because how we start matters. And the One we start with? That makes all the difference.
