Childish vs Childlike
Do we trust God?
It may seem like a silly question, but do we really trust Him?
How often do we try to convince ourselves that we know best? That we can fulfill our own happiness?
A good example of this is discerning vocation. So many men don’t even consider the priesthood because they think God would be calling them to a life that wouldn’t make them happy. In other words, they think what God wants is for them to not be happy.
How ridiculous is that idea! The path to happiness is the path to God!
And, walking that path really comes down to the difference between acting childish versus acting childlike.
Acting childish is whining about not getting our way. Acting childlike is depending on God for our needs — trusting in Him.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span?” Matthew 6:25-27
It’s that childlike trust and dependence which we are called to.
