Counting Hairs
Have you ever realized that our perception of reality is limited, simply because we’re human?
This is especially true when we contemplate an atom, the universe, or eternity. Ironically, we’re perplexed by the finite things too. Scripture tells us that “Even the hairs of your head have all been counted.” Luke 12:7
Can you guess what that number actually is? How would you calculate it? It seems like a question they’d ask at a job interview for Google.
The number itself isn’t significant in our daily lives, but the fact that the number exists is very significant.
Everything in our lives is numbered, including life itself. The simple truth: our days are numbered.
This means that what we do with our time is significant because we are actively choosing one thing over another.
Here’s another way of looking at it — on average, Americans read 200 books in their lifetime. But even if you read a thousand books in your lifetime, there are almost 20 million books in the Library of Congress! Choosing to read one means you’re not going to read another in that time. You could say the same thing about movies.
What’s the point of all of this? Time is limited — make the most of it.
