Do Your Job
Bill Belichick, legendary coach of the New England Patriots, is well-known for his simple but powerful mantra: Do your job.
It’s a phrase that rings true not just in football, but in just about every area of life—sports, business, family. No matter where you are, success often comes down to each person simply doing the task they’ve been given.
On a team, you can’t play every position. You’re not meant to be both quarterback and wide receiver. Your role matters, and it matters most when you embrace it fully.
I think there’s deep wisdom in this for us as Christians, too.
It’s easy to get distracted by everything happening “out there”—in the world, on social media, even in the Church. We can spend so much time worrying about things beyond our control that we neglect what is within our reach: our daily duties, our vocation, the people God has placed right in front of us.
We don’t need to solve every problem or carry every burden. We just need to be faithful to the work God has entrusted to us.
Your vocation—whether you're a parent, a student, a priest, a friend, a coworker—is sacred. Your ordinary responsibilities are not small in the eyes of God. In fact, it’s often through those simple, quiet tasks that God does His greatest work in us and through us.
So keep it simple. Be present. Be faithful.
Do your job.
