Double-Minded
While reading the Letter of James, one phrase stood out to me: double-minded.
It reminds me of the concept of cognitive dissonance—a fancy way of saying we hold contradictory beliefs at the same time. We say we trust God, yet our actions often reveal something different.
We ask God for help, seeking His guidance, yet almost immediately, we start crafting our own solutions. We turn to Him in trust, but deep down, we doubt He’ll actually act.
Another example James highlights is the relationship between faith and works. If we truly believe what we profess, our actions should reflect that belief. Faith and works aren’t separate—they’re inseparable.
You will know them by their fruits. (Matthew 7:16)
If our faith is real, it should bear fruit in our lives. No double-mindedness—just a wholehearted, unified trust in God.
