Father Knows Best
Have you ever ravenously cooked food, so as soon as the food’s done cooking, you’re incredibly tempted to eat it, even though it’s still piping hot? Well, you know to wait to avoid the consequences of a burned tongue and mouth. But, kids, especially young kids, don’t get this. They yell, cry, and beg for the food. Kids don’t always know that what they want would hurt them.
Now, how often do we behave like children — kicking and screaming, mad at God, yelling at Him to give us what we want? Or, maybe we don’t exhibit such a temper, but what about simply doubting God’s plan, thinking that we could do it better, and that we know what’s best?
In the moment, you can’t really reason with a child when they’re exhibiting such behavior. Likewise, the challenge for us is to keep our wits, acknowledging that we don’t always have the full picture. Even when we want something so bad, we’re tasked with humbly and patiently submitting to the Father. After all, Father knows best.
