Fruitful Faith (Part 3): A Generous and Good Heart
This week we're exploring Jesus' parable of the sower, focusing on what makes 'good soil' that bears lasting fruit. Each day examines a different element from Luke 8:15.
"But as for the seed that fell on rich soil, they are the ones who, when they have heard the word, embrace it with a generous and good heart, and bear fruit through perseverance." - Luke 8:15
It’s striking that after hearing and embracing the Word, the virtue Jesus highlights isn’t caution, gratitude, or even humility—though all of those matter deeply.
He speaks of a generous heart.
A heart that doesn’t cling or calculate, but one that gives freely.
It’s as if Jesus is saying: This thing you’ve received? It’s not meant to be stored away. It’s meant to be shared.
Grace can’t be contained. In fact, the very nature of grace is to overflow. The moment we receive God’s Word, it begins to stir within us—not just for our own sake, but for others. It longs to be given away.
And yet, this is where many of us hesitate. We treat our faith like a personal treasure to protect rather than a gift to pour out. We worry about having “enough” grace for ourselves before we offer any to others.
But grace doesn’t run out when it’s shared. It multiplies.
A generous heart doesn’t wait until it feels full to start giving. It gives because that’s how it stays full. It trusts that with God, there is always more.
