Gaps in Our Defenses

C.S. Lewis wrote a book titled “The Screwtape Letters,” which is a compilation of letters from a senior demon to his nephew and underling. 

While the work is fiction, ”The Screwtape Letters” deals with very real issues — sin, temptation, and resistance. 

Lewis points to the unnerving reality that there are forces in this world that are plotting our demise. And, not just our demise, but our eternal damnation to everlasting fire, pain, and anguish. Let that sink in for a second. 

And, while we believe that the Immaculate Heart will triumph in the end, the fact remains that Hell exists, and it’s a place we will go if we choose it...consciously or unconsciously. 

We must be aware of the ploys that seek to undermine our sanctity. Take a hard look inward — where are our weaknesses? Where are we exposed? Where are the gaps in our defenses?
