Gift of Self
One of the side effects of living during our modern age is that it’s so easy to complicate things.
We have massive lists of to-dos or goals that we think will lead us to happiness, whether that be personally, maritally, or career-wise.
For raising ‘good’ kids, we think there’s a laundry list of items that they need: from iPads to expensive experiences to jam-packed schedules.
Furthermore, we often think that sainthood means moving to India, starting a religious order, and changing the world.
It’s too complicated! There are too many things to keep track of and we attempt to execute so much on a daily basis.
How can we minimize? Where and what can we simplify in our lives? Ponder those questions today.
All of these — happiness, being a good parent, becoming a Saint — start with simply giving our time. Be present to your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your coworkers.
Saint John Paul II called this the gift of self. And, it’s the simple path to holiness and happiness that transcends time, place, and culture.
