He wants to heal us
As we read through the Gospels, we see Jesus healing countless people. We often hear about specific miracles, but remember that when He fed the 4,000, they were there for three days, bringing their blind, mute, lame, and sick to be healed. For three days!
On one hand, this shows us just how many people must have needed healing. On the other, it reveals a central part of Jesus’s mission and His desire for us: He wants to heal us.
But here’s an interesting comparison.
Think of children who are often scared to visit the doctor. They may dread shots or dislike the taste of medicine, and even though they want to feel better, they’re reluctant to do what’s necessary to get there. They’re kids, after all!
Yet, we do something similar. We want to be healed—spiritually, emotionally, freed from sins, attachments, and addictions. But how often are we reluctant to do what’s necessary for that healing? We resist the process, even while longing for the result.
Christ wants us to be well; He wants us to be whole. Let’s trust in His desire to heal us and courageously accept the remedies He offers, even when they’re challenging.
