Heart of Jesus
As I mentioned before, June is the Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
One of the beautiful gifts of this devotion is that Jesus doesn’t leave us guessing about His heart. He tells us exactly what it’s like:
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.”
—Matthew 11:29
Let’s slow down and listen carefully to what He’s saying:
“Take my yoke upon you...”
He’s inviting us into work—real discipleship. This isn’t passive. It’s a choice to step into a life yoked to Him, walking beside Him. It’s the call to show up.
“...and learn from me...”
Don’t just go through the motions. Don’t grind your way through life aimlessly. He invites us to learn. To observe. To imitate. To grow.
“For I am meek and humble of heart...”
Here it is—what His heart is like. Gentle. Lowly. Not overbearing or prideful, but approachable. Real strength hidden in humility.
“And you will find rest for yourselves.”
It’s not endless toil. The path of Christ leads to peace. But not the world’s version of peace—a numbing escape or a break from burdens.
No—this is true rest. The kind that comes from being in the right place, with the right person, doing the right thing.
In this month dedicated to the Sacred Heart, maybe the simplest prayer we can pray is this:
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Thine.
