Late Bloomer
No matter our age in life, it’s easy to think that we’re not where we should be in terms of our faith. When we see someone else who’s on fire for Christ, intimidation, shame, and embarrassment are emotions that will likely follow. I don’t know as much as him. I can’t quote the Bible like he did, I don’t know that prayer, and I didn’t even know that word he just said!
A small example of this could be our relationship with the Rosary. While some of us are lifelong Catholics, we know what the Rosary is, but if we were asked to pray it, we might come up a little short.
The reality is, we are all not where we should be. But that’s no reason to give up and let our faith die by the wayside.
In the words of Saint Augustine, a powerhouse saint of the Church: “'Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new.”
Saint Augustine is what you might call a ‘late bloomer’ as far as saints go. But, he’s a witness to the fact that God calls all of us, no matter where or how old we are, nonetheless.
But, we must respond to that call. It’s not too late. Pick up the Bible, learn the Rosary, listen to podcasts, grow in faith. And remember, your faith will bloom in due time — that is, when God says it’s time.
