Little Heaven
“Grant, O my God, that my soul may be a little heaven wherein You can rest with delight.” — St. Elizabeth of the Trinity
During the Christmas season, these words take on a new beauty. Advent has been a time of preparing for Christ’s coming—His birth in Bethlehem and His presence in our lives. But this prayer invites us to go even deeper, to prepare our very souls as a dwelling place for the Lord.
Think of the stable on that holy night: simple, quiet, and humble. It wasn’t grand or adorned with splendor, yet it was the chosen place for the Savior of the world to enter. So too, our hearts are not perfect; they need only be open.
Now is the time to turn inward, to create within us a space of stillness and humility where Christ can dwell. In the midst of the holiday rush, we can pause and ask: Is my soul a place where the Lord can find rest?
In the silence of our hearts, we can echo the prayer of St. Elizabeth: that our souls become little heavens for the God who delights in being with us. Invite Him to stay. Let His peace fill the corners of your life.
This Christmas, may we find Him not just in the manger but within ourselves, where He desires to remain and make His home.
