Magnifies (Part 2): Making Space
“My soul magnifies the Lord.” —Luke 1:46
This five-part series is a slow, prayerful look at a single line of Scripture. Mary’s words in the Magnificat aren’t just a poetic moment—they reveal something essential about her and about what our own souls are meant to do.
"There was no room for them in the inn." — Luke 2:7
Continuing from yesterday’s image, I find it striking how closely "My soul magnifies the Lord" is related to another line in Scripture: "There was no room at the inn."
Christ desires to dwell in us. But when He comes knocking, does He find room—or do we push Him to the outskirts of our hearts? Are we too full, too distracted, too preoccupied for Him?
When our soul magnifies the Lord, it doesn’t just make space—it gives Him more space. It reorders our interior life. It centers our focus on the one thing necessary. If Christ is given room in the “town” of our soul, then all the other “inhabitants” benefit.
But when we crowd Him out, we get everything backwards. As someone once said, we put the cart before the donkey.
To magnify the Lord is to say: Come, Lord Jesus. There is room for You here. And not just a corner—but the center.
