More Than Just a One-Liner
Father Larry Richards promotes the practice “No Bible, No Breakfast. No Bible, No Bed.”
The Bible is the Word of God, so of course, we should want to engage the Word every day.
“Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this faithless and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.” Mark 8:38
Ashamed. That’s tough to swallow. No one wants to admit feeling ashamed of something.
But, this passage is pretty clear cut. If we’re ashamed of Christ, He will be ashamed of us in the end. Those are some pretty high stakes.
So, let’s ask ourselves — are we ashamed of Christ? Are we ashamed to say grace in public? To say we go to a Catholic church? To say we’re pro-life?
At the root of feeling ashamed is a concern for what others think of us, or what we think others think of us. And, that’s a dangerous game to play.
There are a lot of people who want to be told that what they’re doing is right, when it isn’t. What will we do? Will we stand for Christ?
