Mr. Nice Guy
In a world of participation trophies and political correctness, good men are often defined as…nice. Someone who doesn’t rock the boat, or ruffle any feathers, or offend anyone. Nodding along as ‘you do you.’
While being friendly or nice is obviously not a bad thing, we must remember that Jesus Himself was not always ‘Mr. Nice Guy.’ Think of Him tearing through the temple and flipping tables.
There’s a time and a place for righteous anger, for firm justice, for truth.
And, as Jesus showed us that, we must remember the words of Saint Thomas Aquinas: “The greatest kindness one can render to any man consists in leading him from error to truth.”
From error to truth — that’s the greatest kindness we can show one another. And most of the time, the secular world doesn’t see it like that.
But, it’s our duty as Christians to use our words and actions to lead others from error to truth, both courageously and prudently.
