My Will
Throughout our lives are sobering moments that remind us of just how weak and powerless we actually are.
It could be our lack of control in airport security, or our powerlessness to help a sick family member, or our weakness in combating sin that reminds us of our inferiority. It’s a matter of fact that more often than not, we’re simply not in control.
This realization could cause anxiousness, as we start to feel like a ship lost at sea, bobbing along uncharted waters. But, we must remember that when we may not be in control, God is. We can turn to God, relying on Him for all things.
But, here’s the catch — turning to God doesn’t mean praying for what we want only when we get upset, angry, or flustered. In addition, we can’t ignore God’s answer when it wasn’t what we wanted to hear.
Truly submitting to and depending on God requires that we pray “Thy will be done,” not my will be done.
Admitting to our own weakness is hard enough, but we’re also called to ask for God’s help and trust that God knows what’s best for us, even if we can’t see it. It’s a tough task!
As Saint Paul admits in the Second Letter to the Corinthians, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.”
Let us all have this mindset when turning to God.
