Never Alone
The Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels occurs on October 2 every year. For many of us, our guardian angels probably don’t get enough thought or consideration. We might think of them as childish beliefs, or we might simply ignore their existence.
But, ignoring our guardian angels ignores a profound and recurring truth of our faith — that we are never alone.
In our struggles, our trials, and our battles, God has assigned angels to be our guides and protectors. And, these aren’t some make-believe characters like (secular) Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.
Christ Himself refers to our guardian angels: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 18:10
The Catechism further expounds on our beliefs: “From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life. Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God.” CCC 336
We are never alone. In difficult and challenging moments, we should call on our guardian angels. Pray for them to be our protectors and shepherds.
