On the Hunt
Lately, an image has been on my mind: that of the Lord, on the hunt—not with wrath or vengeance, but with relentless love.
We can sometimes imagine God as someone who’s chasing us down to point out our flaws or punish our mistakes. In our guilt or fear, He can start to feel like a nagging presence, a divine disciplinarian waiting to strike.
But that’s not who He is.
God is not a bully in the sky, tailing us with condemnation. He is the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to go after the one. He is the Father running down the road to embrace the prodigal son.
When He pursues us, it’s not to make us miserable—it’s to make us whole.
He doesn’t track us to shame us. He doesn’t follow us out of spite. He follows because He loves. Always. Unceasingly.
No matter how far we run, His love runs faster.
