Saved from Hell
In 1917, Our Lady appeared to three shepherd children near Fatima, Portugal.
She showed the children visions, taught them prayers, and issued warnings. One such warning was this: “Pray, pray a great deal, and make sacrifices for sinners, for many souls go to Hell because they have no one to pray and make sacrifices for them.”
What a nice punch to the gut, right? “Many souls go to Hell.” Eternal suffering. This is not just life and death that we’re talking about here, but eternal life and death. For our souls, the souls of those we love, and the souls of all of humanity.
Now, in Our Lady’s words, we have the problem and the solution. We’ve already identified the problem, but what’s the solution? Hint, it’s the fact that no one is offering prayers and sacrifices for these souls.
Prayers and sacrifices. What further motivation do we need to develop a prayer life than the goal of eternal life?
Maybe you haven’t noticed, but life isn’t always easy. Struggles and suffering are a part of life. And yes, we should be taking up voluntary sacrifices, but we can start by accepting the sacrifices already given to us. Offer them up for the conversion of sinners.
And by doing this, we hope to not only save others from Hell, but our own souls as well.
