Sick with Sin
It’s so painfully obvious that it’s barely worth saying, but...nobody likes being sick.
When you’re sick, all you do is lay around thinking about what it was like to feel healthy. A lot of times (if not all the time), sickness makes us realize how much we take our health for granted.
When our bodies catch a cold, it seems to affect every aspect of our lives, but when our souls fall ill it often goes unnoticed.
One of the reasons why we don’t realize we’re ‘spiritually sick’ is because we get used to it — the fog, the lethargy, the sluggishness in our souls. It becomes the new normal.
To make matters worse, we often have to self-diagnose our souls in order to get better.
How can we tell if we are spiritually ill? Newsflash: we all are! We’re all sinners who will continue to be tempted and continue to fall until we reach Heaven. But, there’s some good news — the doc’s on call.
No matter how often we need it,, we can always visit the Divine Physician in Confession. It is because of our illness that Jesus came down to Earth two thousand years ago.
“Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.” Mark 2:17
Confession is treatment for our souls, and the treatment will be ongoing until we die.
