“What I do, I do not understand. For I do not do what I want, but I do what I hate.” Saint Paul in Romans 7:15
Saint Paul is spot on with this passage. So often, we know exactly what we should not do. We know what sin is. We know that it’s wrong, it’s bad for us, and it hurts our relationship with God, but...we still sin anyways.
Now, we don’t just wake up each day and think “I’m going to sever my relationship with God today.” We get lax. We get tempted. We wander and stray. In our own lives, where does sin lurk? Where are we tempted?
So, what can we do? It starts with knowing what the little things are that lead us to sin, because it’s the little things that lead us down the path. And, that’s the stuff we need to be vigilant about.
To combat sin, we must keep our guard up. We must know where sin lurks and see it for what it is. And of course, in those moments (in all moments, really), we must call on our Lord and our Lady for grace to persevere.
While sin may lurk, consider more that goodness, grace, beauty and wisdom may lurk all the more!
