Stay Golden
At a recent men’s group, we read through the Sermon on the Mount. If you haven’t revisited it in a while, I encourage you to take some time to read Matthew Chapters 5-7. It’s an incredible blueprint for Christian living, packed with lessons that challenge and inspire us.
As we wrapped up our discussion, someone asked a great question: How can we practically live out one of the themes or points Jesus makes?
For me, the answer came in one simple yet profound verse:
"Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets." (Matthew 7:12)
On the one hand, the Golden Rule is so straightforward. We’ve heard it since we were kids—maybe so much that it risks becoming background noise in our spiritual lives. But if you think about it, you can’t find more practical advice than this.
And Jesus doesn’t just offer it as a suggestion. He emphasizes its importance in a striking way: this single sentence sums up the entire law and the prophets. In essence, Christ is saying, If you want a spark note for how to live out God’s will, here it is.
How often do we overcomplicate things in our faith? We analyze, debate, and look for complex answers to life’s challenges. But here, Jesus boils it all down: treat others the way you want to be treated.
It’s practical. It’s doable. And it’s the heart of God’s law.
