Sticks and Rocks
Two things the Lord never tires of are gratitude and appreciation. He is our Creator, after all. Even during the trials and storms He sends our way, we have so much to be grateful for and appreciative of.
Think about the world from a child’s perspective. Walking along a path at a local park can be an adventure in itself. Everything is fascinating to a child, even if they’ve passed the same object every few steps, like sticks and rocks. They react to sticks and rocks like it’s the first time they’ve ever seen them.
For children, this awe and wonderment comes naturally. A child could see hundreds, if not thousands, of sticks and rocks during that walk, yet they will still rejoice at every single one.
There’s a parallel here for how God sees us: He rejoices over us every single time we acknowledge His presence. But, there’s also a lesson for us adults: how amazing is the world we live in, the gifts God has given us, our families, our homes, and our faith...yet, how often do we acknowledge His presence, at the very least?
So, maybe instead of obsessing over what we don’t have, we should be grateful and appreciative of what we do have...even the sticks and the rocks.
