Tiny Kingdoms
Our culture is becoming increasingly more and more selfish.
We want everything on our own terms — our careers, our marriages, our families. We pride ourselves in having total self-freedom, being in control. I define myself, I decide what’s true, I decide my purpose in life.
In effect, we crown ourselves rulers of the tiny kingdoms that become our souls. And, when we declare ourselves as lord of our lives, there’s little room for the Lord of Lords.
The truth is, defining ourselves and our purpose is not a task that we actually want. We simply cannot fulfill our deepest longings. We are not our own creators. We are creatures, created by the Creator.
Our lives are not blazing a new trail into the great unknown, with the destination to be decided. We already have a purpose and meaning to life. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you.” Jeremiah 1:5
Our calling is to be united to God. During our lives, we should strive to walk the narrow path that leads back to Him. Anything other than that will leave us feeling incomplete.
And, to walk this narrow path means that we must give up our tiny kingdoms. We must come before our Creator and lay it all at His feet.
“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38
We offer ourselves — everything...heart, soul, and mind — in the service of His Kingdom.
