What Dog Are You Going to Feed?
I heard this expression the other day: "What dog are you going to feed?"
It's a raw way to put it, but that's exactly what makes it stick. Let's be honest – we do feed things in our lives. We feed our vices with our attention, our time, our energy. Late-night scrolling feeds restlessness. Anger feeds on replaying that argument from yesterday. Worry grows fat on all the mental energy we pour into imagining worst-case scenarios.
But here's the thing – we're also feeding the good stuff, whether we realize it or not. That morning prayer you squeeze in before the kids wake up? You're feeding patience that shows up later when someone spills juice on your clean shirt. The decision to put the phone down and actually listen when your spouse talks about their day? You're feeding connection.
The truth is, every choice we make about our time and attention is feeding either the person we want to become or the patterns that hold us back. Most of us don't even realize we're making that choice dozens of times every day.
So what are you feeding right now? What gets stronger each time you give it your energy?
"50% of holiness is going to bed on time."
