What's Not Said (Part 5 of 5)
St. Faustina’s feast day is October 5th. So this week we're unpacking the prayer Jesus revealed to St. Faustina: "Jesus, I trust in you." Each day we'll reflect on the power and meaning contained in these five simple words.
"Jesus, I trust in you."
In five words, there's a lot said. But there's also a lot not said—yet still included.
The prayer doesn't specify what we're trusting Jesus with. It doesn't say "I trust you with my health" or "I trust you with my finances" or "I trust you with my family."
It just says "I trust in you." Period.
It's all-encompassing. Everything is included in that trust. Our hopes and fears, our dreams and disappointments, our past and future, our loved ones and our enemies, our successes and failures.
The prayer doesn't say "I trust you when I understand your plan." It doesn't say "I trust you when things are going well" or "I trust you if you do what I'm hoping for."
Just "I trust in you." In all circumstances. In every season. Whether we see His hand at work or not.
The prayer doesn't explain why we trust or list the conditions under which our trust applies. It doesn't hedge or qualify or add fine print.
It's pure, simple, total surrender. "Jesus, I trust in you"—with everything I am, in everything I face, for everything that's coming.
That's the beauty and the challenge of these five words. They leave no room for partial trust or trust with reservations. They call us to the kind of trust that holds nothing back.
Because when you trust in Jesus—really trust in Him—everything else is covered.
Everything.
