Worst Thing
If separation from God—sin—is the worst thing that could happen to us... well, let me stop there. Do we actually recognize that?
Do we live like losing a job is worse than losing our way spiritually? Do we act like wrecking a car, getting sick, or going bankrupt could be more devastating than drifting from God? Most of us, if we're honest, probably don't. We worry more about our 401k than our souls. We lose sleep over a medical diagnosis but barely think twice about skipping Mass.
Whether we recognize it or not, it's probably worth sitting with that idea for a minute.
Now, if separation from God truly is the worst thing, then the best thing would naturally be union—or reunion—with Him. This follows, doesn't it? And here's the beauty of the Catholic Church: we don't have to wonder how to find our way back. We have a very clear step to take on that journey of reunion.
Confession.
Think about that. In the face of what we just acknowledged as the ultimate devastation—separation from God—Christ gives us the ultimate antidote. Not just hope for forgiveness, but actual forgiveness. Not just a path back, but a guaranteed way home.
The question isn't whether God wants us back. He does. The question is whether we want to come home.
